We each owe the Earth 16 trees

I you want to put back into the atmosphere the oxygen you will breath in a lifetime, take out your spade and plant some trees.
You will also help offset the climate-changing carbon dioxide you pump into the air by urban living, each time you drive a car or switch on a light.
It takes 16 trees to supply the oxygen for one person’s life. So we each owe the Earth 16 trees.

Real Estate Value of Trees

Urban Forest

Urban Forests Can Increase Real Estate Values

Property values increase 5-15% when compared to properties without trees (depends on species, maturity, quantity and location).
A study that evaluated the effects of several different variables on homes in Manchester, Connecticut, found that street trees added about $4,686 or 6% to the sale price of a home.
A more recent study in indicated that trees added $9,500, or more than 8 percent, to the average sale price of a residence in a suburb of Hamilton, Ontario.

As part of the upcoming Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (in April), Astral Artists has commissioned animation by Micah Chambers Goldberg, accompanied by a piano transcription of Stravinsky's The Firebird by Alexander Moutouzkine - and played live by him - in a film called Who Stole the Mona Lisa?" The premiere is planned for April 9 at the Kimmel. The trailer looks promising
SATURDAY, JANUARY 8, 2011

Reading Terminal Market shoppers were ambushed again today by opera. At noon, an excerpt from Bizet's Carmen popped out of no where, sung by both soloists and a rather large plain-clothes chorus. Listeners were startled and tickled. Once again, the event was staged by the Opera Company of Philadelphia, and underwritten by a grant from the Knight Foundation. Philly Online was there; video here.

Keyboard Shortcuts for Facebook

By Elena Santos on 11 January, 2011
Being a sucker for keyboard shortcuts, I was surprised to read on The How-To Geek that Facebook has its own set of keyboard combinations - and I didn't know about them!
Not surprising, though; I don't use Facebook that much, and when I do, I just check the Wall for the latest updates and rarely browse any other section. But just in case you're interested, here's the list of all currently available keyboard shortcuts for Facebook.
Alt+1: Facebook's homepage
Alt+2: Your Facebook profile page
Alt+3: Friend requests
Alt+4: Messages
Alt+5: Notifications
Alt+6: Account page
Alt+7: Privacy settings
Alt+8: Facebook's page on Facebook
Alt+9: Facebook Terms of Use
Alt+0: Facebook Help Center
Alt + ?: Enables Search
Alt+m: Compose a new message
These shortcuts work best on Chrome. If you're using Firefox, you have to add Shift to the Alt combination, and if you're using Internet Explorer, you need to press Enter after each combination. Who knows, maybe these keyboard shortcuts will help you become more efficient while browsing the least productive website in the world...
