The mission of Project H.O.M.E's Art Program is to enliven, inspire and enrich the lives of aspiring artists and the local community. Participants are individuals with various levels of artistic talent that could otherwise go unrecognized without the opportunities provided by Project H.O.M.E. The classes provide participants with an outlet for self expression as well as an opportunity to showcase their talents and increase their self-confidence.
In addition to encouraging self expression, the Art Program allows artists to use their creativity and ideas as a way to generate income. Every quarter, Project H.O.M.E. sponsors an art show for the artists to share their work with friends and families and also with the general public. The shows, located at Project H.O.M.E.'s main office, include resident art that is hung and displayed and offered for sale if the resident so desires. The shows are a unique way for the Project H.O.M.E residents and staff to interact with and connect with the larger community. A special holiday effort includes inviting the artists to create and submit designs for holiday cards, which may also be produced and sold. These programs benefit the participating artists and the entire community, allowing for interconnectedness between residents and the community in which they live and work.
During the year, Project H.O.M.E proudly displays the artwork of its residents throughout its facilities, giving its artists yet another opportunity to showcase their work and achieve positive recognition. Art classes, art exhibits, and other events are key components to Project H.O.M.E.'s approach to creating pathways out of poverty, promoting independence and self-esteem.
Regularly scheduled art classes are held each Monday at 1523 Fairmount Avenue . Classes are open to Project H.O.M.E residents and members of the community who wish to express themselves artistically. Less structured classes are held at Kairos House and Women of Change and these classes are open to residents only.
